FAQS – EYEBROWS

What is permanent makeup?

Permanent Makeup, also called Cosmetic Tattooing or Micropigmentation, is the process of implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin by means of a tiny, sterile, single use disposable needles to produce the appearance of cosmetic makeup.

Does the procedure hurt?

A highly-effective, topical anesthetic cream and gel are used for numbing before and during your procedure. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the entirety of the procedure.  If you are on your menstrual cycle you will be a bit more sensitive towards the pain.

How safe is permanent makeup?

The treatment is performed under strict government sanitation and sterilization standards. Our highly trained and certified cosmetic tattoo specialists perform each service using disposable, sterilized parts and needles. The treatment is conducted with disposable and completely disinfected and sterilized equipment and a one-time-use needle. All pigments that are used contain ingredients approved by the FDA for cosmetic use.

What should I expect during the procedure?

We understand that these procedures are a major beauty decision for you. A numbing agent will be placed on your eyebrows for 20mins to prenumb.  During this time, the artist will go through a full consultation, and discuss how certain colours and designs will best complement your face shape along with technique to best match the look you are aiming for and to match your natural brow hairs. Next, your artist will pencil the eyebrow design on until you both have reached an agreement on the shape that is most flattering to you.  The procedure will begin after agreement.

Can I get cosmetic tattooing if I am pregnant or nursing?

As a precaution, we do not perform cosmetic tattooing on pregnant or nursing women.  You will have to wait a minimum of 60 days after birth/nursing.

What is the difference between 'hairstrokes' and 'powdered ombre'?

Hairstroke eyebrows are tattooing individual, angled hair like strokes that mimic your natural hair growth to achieve the most natural looking eyebrows.  The color is more vibrant than powdering but the shape is not as defined as powdered ombre since its strokey looking.  However if you have an oily t-zone your strokes will be less distinct looking and may blur a bit.  Feathering on average fades 25% from the initial procedure.

Powdered ombre eyebrows once healed look like powdered eyebrows that are lighter in the front and will gradually go darker towards the tail.  The end result is a defined shaped that is soft and powdery looking.  Powdered ombre fades 30% on average from the initial.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A BOLD BROW THIS STUDIO IS NOT FOR YOU WE SPECIALIZE IN THE MOST NATURAL TECHNIQUES.

How long does the procedure take?

An average treatment is about 2-3 hours long depending on the artist. The majority of the time is spent selecting the appropriate color for your skin as well as measuring and artistically drawing on the shape and size prior to actually implanting the pigment.

What if I have cosmetic tattooing from another studio?

You must email/text us photos of your eyebrows prior to trying to make an appointment to make sure your technician is willing to do cover up/correction or touch up work.  As a new client to the studio you will be paying full service charge.  Touch up prices are only for current clients.

How would I look immediately after? What is the healing process?

Your permanent makeup will appear darker and bigger than expected for the first few days. This will gradually lighten over the course of a week. You may carry on normal activities immediately after, except you should not use makeup on the affected area during the healing process. You will not be able to get your eyebrows wet and you will not be able to workout because we do not want you sweating.  Your eyebrows will appear thicker and much darker for up to 5 days post procedure until any scab peels off. The area may also be reddish and tender, so be gentle with your skin during the healing process and keep applying the aftercare product provided.  Healing usually takes on average anywhere between 8-12 days.

At first, the pigment will appear too dark. Then, after 1 week it may appear much too light. The final colour will not “settle” for about 4-6 weeks. Then at around 8 weeks you will return for your complimentary touch up.  At the second treatment, we will assess the colour retention and make adjustments as necessary. Everyone heals differently and at different rates.

What should I do after the procedure? And about long term care?

We provide very specific post-care instructions after your procedure. It is highly beneficial to follow these instructions to ensure a good healing process and to achieve the best results. The most essential aftercare is to keep the treated area dry from water but kept moist(with ointment provided in a very thin coat), do not rub or pick as the color will peel off, and avoid extreme heat (like in saunas, jacuzzis, steam rooms, places with hot humidity). Also, no sweating during the healing process.

A good sunscreen applied daily on tattooed area(s) is needed to help keep color true. Sun exposure will make the color fade faster.  Any face products that resurface the skin must be kept one inch away from the procedure area.   If you are planning a chemical peel, MRI or other medical procedure, please inform the technician that you have cosmetic tattoo on your face. Careful application must be taken to avoid affecting the tattooed area. If you are planning to have laser treatments, tell your laser specialist to avoid the pigmented area. Laser may cause pigment to turn black.

What pigments do you use?

We carry two different types of pigments in our studio.  Organic and inorganic.  Your technician will decide which pigment brand to use dependent on what desired outcome you are wanting for your cosmetic micropigmentation.  We use the safest semi-permanent pigments to use for skin.

Is botox okay with cosmetic tattooing?

Most definitely, please just plan accordingly.  A minimum of two weeks prior to a getting the procedure done or a minimum of two weeks after.

Do you shave off the eyebrows?

We incorporate as much of the natural brow hairs as possible.  Any stray hairs that lay outside of the brow design will be removed.

What if I am a regular eyebrow tinter?

Please tint your brows 5-7 days prior to your appointment so your technician can see the color you would like to achieve.

How old do you have to be to get cosmetic tattooing?

You must be 18 years or older to receive a tattoo service at Brownude.
