FAQS – LIP BLUSH

What are the benefits of lip blush?

  • Lips appear more defined without surgery or fillers
  • Restores color to lips that have become pale
  • Corrects blurred lip lines
  • Eliminates the daily use of pencils to outline, fill-in, or reshaping lip borders

Does the procedure hurt?

Of all permanent makeup procedures, the permanent lip enhancement procedure is the most sensitive. A highly-effective, topical anesthetic cream and gel are used for numbing before and during your procedure. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the entirety of the procedure. If you are on your menstrual cycle you will be a bit more sensitive towards the pain.

Pre-care instructions MUST BE STRICTLY FOLLOWED to limit bleeding and skin sensitivities during the service. Excessing bleeding and sensitivity during the procedure will dilute and expel the pigment color and lead to poor results.

If you are a frequent smoker or “sun worshipper” the topical anesthetics used during the treatment may not last as long and also can lead to poor retention and poor lasting results.

How do I prepare for my lip blush appointment?

You MUST take Valtrex, pre and post procedure to help prevent the outbreak of cold sores. There are absolutely no exceptions to this rule.

***You must contact a doctor for a prescription of an antiviral medication (Valtrex) to prevent a herpes outbreak. Start taking medication 3 days prior, day of and continue for 3 days post procedure.   Get enough for your initial and your touch up appointment (2 weeks worth).

Caffeine, alcohol, and medications that act as blood-thinners should avoided 48 hours prior to your appointment. These can cause excessive bleeding during the tattooing procedure and will reduce the amount of pigment absorption.

It is highly recommended that you avoid the sun and tanning beds for 4 weeks before and after your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule your appointment. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.

You must wait 4 weeks after getting lip fillers, it is possible to have poor color retention in lips that have had collagen injections within 4 weeks. If you plan on getting lip fillers after your procedure, you must wait at least 4 weeks after your touch up.

Gently exfoliate your lips everyday for one week until the night before your appointment.  Also keep them moisturized.  Your lips have to be super moisturiezed for the appointment for easy implantation.

Arrive at your appointment with no lipstick/lipgloss on, just a thick coat of vaseline or chapstick.  The more moisturized your lips are, the better the retention.

Please bring along your favorite lip colors.

What can I expect during my procedure?

The artist will go through a full consultation, and discuss how certain colors will best complement your lips. Next, she will pencil in the lip shape, and numbing will be applied for 20 mins before the procedure will begin.

*Please note that We DO NOT go outside of your lip shape to keep it the most natural looking. We only do the most natural technique for lips. We will follow your natural lip shape and will only go outside of your lips slightly if it needs to be corrected for symmetry.  If you have quite noticeable asymmetry, filler is recommended. We also DO NOT do the lipstick look and just lip blush.

How long does lip blush last?

Color can last up to 3-4 years. Please note that final results cannot be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates. We will re-evaluate how your skin has received the pigment at your touchup session and make any changes.  Color reboosts are recommended every two years to maintain the color.

How long does the procedure take?

An average treatment is about 2.5-3 hours long depending on the artist.  The more moisturized your lips are, the easier it will be for the artist to implant pigment.

What if I have cosmetic tattooing from another studio?

You must email/text us photos of your lips prior to trying to make an appointment to make sure your technician is willing to do cover up/correction or touch up work.  As a new client to the studio you will be paying full service charge.  Touch up prices are only for current clients.

How will my lips look immediately after?

  • The lip color will look quite dark, like lipstick. And your lips will look slightly larger than normal due to swelling, and look as though you may have had a slight lip filler injection. The degree of this varies from person to person. The size of your lips will shrink back to normal and the color will significantly fade up to 70% within the first 5 days.

What do I do after the procedure?

We provide very specific post-care instructions after your procedure. It is highly beneficial to follow these instructions to ensure a good healing process and to achieve the best results. The most essential aftercare is to keep the treated area dry from water but kept moist (with ointment provided in a very thin coat). DO NOT rub, pick or stretch your lips (or the color will peel off). And avoid moisture to the lips such as hot soup or drinks for 5 days, drink everything through a straw until lips completely peel.  We recommend to not eat spicy and a healthier diet while healing.

What should know about long term care?

Touch-up appointments are optional. If you do not maintain, the color will lighten over time. Fading greatly depends on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment color used.  We suggest that if you want to maintain your lips so that they always look their best, plan on scheduling a touch up once every two years for best results.

Smokers, “sun worshippers”, or anyone with skin that is in a state of distress may have less desirable results. Sun exposure will make the color fade faster. A lip balm with SPF applied daily on tattooed area is needed to help keep color true.

If you are planning a chemical peel, MRI or other medical procedure, please inform the technician that you have had a cosmetic tattoo. Careful application must be taken to avoid affecting the tattooed area. If you are planning to have laser treatments, tell your laser specialist to avoid the pigmented area. Laser may cause pigment to turn black.
