What is permanent makeup?

Permanent Makeup, also called Cosmetic Tattooing or Micropigmentation, is the process of implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin by means of a tiny, sterile, disposable needle to produce the appearance of cosmetic makeup.

Does the procedure hurt?

A highly-effective, topical anesthetic cream and gel are used for numbing before and during your procedure. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the entirety of the procedure.  If you are on your menstrual cycle you will be a bit more sensitive towards the pain.

How safe is permanent makeup?

The treatment is performed under strict government sanitation and sterilization standards. Our highly trained and certified cosmetic tattoo specialists perform each service using disposable, sterilized parts and needles. The treatment is conducted with disposable and completely disinfected and sterilized equipment and a one-time-use needle. All pigments that are used contain ingredients approved by the FDA for cosmetic use.

What can I expect during my procedure?

We understand that these procedures are a major beauty decision for you. A numbing agent will be placed on your eyebrows for 20mins to prenumb.  During this time, the artist will go through a full consultation, and discuss how certain colours and designs will best complement your face shape along with technique to best match the look you are aiming for and to match your natural brow hairs. Next, she will pencil the eyebrow design on until you both have reached an agreement on the shape that is most flattering to you.  The procedure will begin after agreement.

Who can benefit from permanent cosmetics?

  • Those who want to save time from daily makeup application
  • Those who are active and constantly sweating or rubbing off their makeup.
  • Those with unsteady hands for makeup application
  • Those who have allergies to traditional make-up
  • Those with alopecia or loss of brow hair due to chemotherapy
  • Those who have over plucked and cannot grow back the original hairs

What is the difference between 'Hairstrokes' and 'Powdered Ombre' Eyebrows?

Hairstroke eyebrows are tattooing individual, angled hair like strokes that mimic your natural hair growth to achieve the most natural looking eyebrows.  The color is more vibrant than powdering but the shape is not as defined as powdered ombre since its strokey looking.  However if you have an oily t-zone your strokes will be less distinct looking and may blur a bit.  Feathering on average fades 25% from the initial procedure.

Powdered ombre eyebrows once healed look like powdered eyebrows that are lighter in the front and will gradually go darker towards the tail.  The end result is a defined shaped that is soft and powdery looking.  Powdered ombre fades 30% on average from the initial.

How long does permanent makeup last?

The treatment is permanent and will not wash off. However, it will fade over time and touch-ups are recommended roughly once a year to maintain the color. Frequency of touch-ups depends on a number of factors including: the pigment color used (lighter colors fade faster), lifestyle (sun exposure), iron deficiency (your body absorbs iron-oxide as a supplement), and if anything that resurfaces the skin come into contact with treated areas.  Touch-ups are normal for permanent makeup procedures, with each new procedure requiring 2 visits. The initial procedure followed by a complimentary touch-up procedure about 2 months later. The initial is when we build up the eyebrow and the touch up is to fine tune anything that is needed.

How long does the procedure take?

An average treatment is about 2-2.5 hours. The majority of the time is spent selecting the appropriate color for your skin as well as measuring and artistically drawing on the shape and size prior to actually implanting the pigment.

What should I do before my procedure?

  • If you have an ideal shape and colour in mind, bring a few reference photos with you
  • You may fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we can take into consideration the shape you desire
  • We require our clients to avoid any blood thinning medication for a minimum of 72 hours prior to their appointment. This includes Vitamin E and Aspirin

How will I look immediately after? What is the healing process?

Your permanent makeup will appear darker and bigger than expected for the first few days. This will gradually lighten over the course of a week. You may carry on normal activities immediately after, except you should not use makeup on the affected area during the healing process.  Your eyebrows will appear thicker and much darker for up to 5 days post procedure until any scab peels off. The area may also be reddish and tender, so be gentle with your skin during the healing process and keep applying the aftercare product provided.  Healing usually takes on average anywhere between 6-10 days.

When will I see the final result?

At first, the pigment will appear too dark. Then, after 1 week it may appear much too light. The final colour will not “settle” for about 4 weeks. Then at around 6 weeks you will return for your complimentary touch up.  At the second treatment, we will assess the colour retention and make adjustments as necessary. Everyone heals differently and at different rates.

What should I do after the procedure?

We provide very specific post-care instructions after your procedure. It is highly beneficial to follow these instructions to ensure a good healing process and to achieve the best results. The most essential aftercare is to keep the treated area dry from water but kept moist(with ointment provided in a very thin coat), do not rub or pick as the color will peel off, and avoid extreme heat (like in saunas, jacuzzis, steam rooms, places with hot humidity). Also, no sweating during the healing process.

What should I know about long term care?

A good sunscreen applied daily on tattooed area(s) is needed to help keep color true. Sun exposure will make the color fade faster. If you are planning a chemical peel, MRI or other medical procedure, please inform the technician that you have had an iron-oxide cosmetic tattoo. Careful application must be taken to avoid affecting the tattooed area. If you are planning to have laser treatments, tell your laser specialist to avoid the pigmented area. Laser may cause pigment to turn black.

What pigments do you use?

We use iron oxide pigments. These pigments fade over time as your body will naturally absorb it. They are considered the safest semi-permanent pigments to use for skin.

Do you shave the eyebrow hairs?

We incorporate as much of the natural brow hairs as possible.  Any stray hairs that lay outside of the brow design will be removed.
